Ein Überblick über die Finanz Branche

von am 12. Oktober 2017

3D Design

von am 4. Mai 2017

Three-dimensional computer graphics have superseded two-dimensional ones. These 3D graphics are usually produced with the help of special software. There are about 40 different applications for that purpose. Moreover, there are numerous free packages of 3D software available on the internet.

The creation of 3D computer graphics can be divided up into three stages: modelling, layout and animation, and rendering. A 3D model can be generated by an engineer who either scans a real-world object or shapes it on the PC with the help of a modelling tool. Other ways to produce 3D models are procedural modelling and physical stimulation. The so-called vertices shape the model;  three or more vertices form groups of polygons. Before the object can be rendered as a 3D image, it has to be placed in a scene in order to define its location and size. The object becomes an animation if it moves or changes its form over a period of time. This can be achieved with the use of kinematics, motion capture or keyframing. Rendering creates a 3D image out of the model which can either be photorealistic or non-photorealistic. The rendering stage is usually accompanied by the use of computer graphics software which uses the techniques of light transport and scattering to achieve realistic images.

The majority of algorithms for the creation of 3D computer graphics is identical with those for 2D computer vector graphics, which are used in the wire-frame model, and with those for 2D computer raster graphics, which are used in the final rendered display of the image. The boundaries between 2D and 3D images in computer graphics is blurry: 2D occasionally makes use of 3D effects while 3D may use the same rendering techniques as 2D.

Modern 3D movie blockbusters are created with the help of computer programmes. Computer-generated images, so-called CGIs, have become very popular for films, video games, commercials, simulations and print media. CGIs can be both static and dynamic. In recent years, software for the production of computer-generated imagery has become more easily available and computers have become much faster, which enables even smaller companies to produce high quality products.

Print Design

von am

Today, most designs that are intended to be printed are created on computers beforehand, for example the layout for newspapers and magazines. Page design has started to develop in the Middle Ages, when monks copied the bible, and has been perfected in the modern media. There are specific rules in order to achieve an aesthetic effect and guarantee readability.

In print design, pages are generally made up of text, pictures and other elements, created with the help of special techniques like die or laser cutting, embossing and foil stamping. The technique of creating 3D images is not exclusively used in computer graphics but also in print: The 3D image is printed in several layers by special 3D printers.

Important aspects of page layout are the use of different colours and the choice of the right typeface to match the general layout. The highest goal is to achieve a sort of balance or uniformity in design, meaning that the layout is supposed to be harmonious and that all layout parts match each other to create an integral whole. In general, layouts are first created by drawing sketches, sometimes in a rather old-fashioned way with paper and pencil but largely with the help of computer programmes such as page layout software.

Since computer technology has become easily available for many people, page layout and design has continued from being exclusively used in print media to being used in electronic media as well as print media. An electronic pages is also called a graphical user interface or GUI, especially if the page is interactive. Such interactive webpages do not only have to be planned in terms of general layout but also in terms of attraction and eye movement, creating a great experience for the user. Another aspect in web page layout that has to be considered is that the page layout ought to remain the same whatever web browser is used. To achieve this effect, the designers work with cascading style sheets.

In print as well as in web page design, the layouter has to make up his mind whether to work with grids or templates. Grids are rather flexible guidelines which are used to align or repeat elements on a page. Templates are more rigid but very easy to use, especially when the background is only changed minimally while the foreground content of a page is modified.

Web design

von am

The term web design encompasses several skills used in producing and maintaining internet websites. Generally, web design covers areas such as web graphic design, interface design, authoring, user experience design and search engine optimisation. Web designers usually also have to take usability and web accessibility into account.

Today, web design makes up an important part of our lives since many people have to work with the internet. It is a fairly recent field of design which came into existence in the late 1980s when the World Wide Web was created. In the beginning only text, without the integration of moving images or music, could be found on the internet. Initial webpages were Unix based, then along came Netscape and a sort of browser war began. The dominating browsers after 1999 came from Netscape and Microsoft. Thanks to the competing companies, web design developed rapidly and many inventions, such as JavaScript, were created.

Although it is a technical discipline, web design can also be related to graphic design in general. Tools and programmes for web design are being updated continually. Designers can use mark up validators to test accessibility and usability, hand-coded or editing software-coded mark ups to create webpages, or vector and raster packages for working on graphics. Skills and techniques in web design include use of typography, page layout, code quality, visual design and user experience design. For example, a website should only use few and similar typefaces and layout should encourage easy navigation for users.

Several people with different job descriptions are needed to set up a complete website: Web designers, web developers, graphic designers, internet marketing specialists, SEO writers, internet copywriters and user experience designers may all be involved in the process. The web designer is responsible for all visual aspects of a website while the web developer should have sufficient knowledge of programming languages. A graphic designer usually creates logos or buttons, the internet marketing specialist is responsible for targeting viewers. Internet copywriters work on the content of a website and user experience designers work on the field of user focused design. However, it is common in smaller organisations that one person occupies both jobs as web designer and web developer.
